As Cyclone Montha approaches, the coastal district of Nellore in India is on high alert, with authorities taking swift action to safeguard lives and property. The Meteorological Department's warnings have prompted a full-scale mobilization, even as the sun shone on Sunday, offering a temporary respite from the impending storm.

The administration has left no stone unturned in its preparations. Special officers have been deployed to 12 coastal mandals, ensuring a swift response to any emergencies. The iconic No.1 flag now flies at Krishnapatnam Port, a stark reminder to fishermen of the dangers ahead. Heeding Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's directives, officials have urged fishermen to return to shore immediately, recognizing the potential ferocity of the sea. With the cyclone expected to bring very heavy rains from Monday onwards, the district is gearing up for a challenging few days.

Nellore's Collector, Himanshu Shukla, has meticulously planned the response, identifying vulnerable areas and populations. A total of 42 villages and 166 habitations in coastal mandals are in the cyclone's path, along with 27 villages on the State Highway and 16 on National Highways. The administration has set up 144 rehabilitation centers and round-the-clock control rooms to coordinate rescue and relief efforts. Additionally, 312 pregnant women due next week are being prioritized, with arrangements made to ensure their safe delivery in hospitals.

With the cyclone's landfall expected on October 29, Nellore's administration is prepared to face the challenge head-on, demonstrating a proactive approach to disaster management.
