Telangana's New Haven for Abused Women and Children

In a significant step towards ensuring justice and support for victims of violence and distress, the Telangana Police inaugurated a new haven for women and children in Shamshabad. The Bharosa Centre, a one-stop crisis support system, promises to offer a comprehensive range of services, from legal aid to psychological counselling, under one roof.

This facility, the third of its kind in the Cyberabad Commissionerate, is a testament to the state's commitment to compassionate policing. Staffed entirely by trained women, the centre will cater to 17 police station limits in the Rajendranagar and Shamshabad zones, providing a much-needed safe space for those affected by abuse. The centre's inauguration marks a crucial milestone in the expansion of the Bharosa initiative, which began in 2016 and now boasts 33 centres across Telangana.

The Bharosa model has gained national recognition for its victim-centric approach, offering integrated support that ensures no woman or child feels alone in their time of crisis. This initiative is a collaborative effort, with the Telangana Police Department leading the way, supported by the state government and the Department of Women Development and Child Welfare. The Shamshabad centre, sponsored by the Bangarutalli Foundation (BBG Group), is a prime example of successful public-private partnerships in welfare projects.

As the Bharosa initiative expands, it promises to bring hope and healing to more victims, reflecting a broader societal shift towards addressing and preventing gender-based violence and child abuse. With plans to extend these centres to all districts, Telangana is setting a benchmark for survivor-focused justice delivery, ensuring that every woman and child in need has a safe haven to turn to.
