Nigeria's Youths Say No to Drugs

In a powerful display of unity, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Rivers State, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigeria Police Force have joined forces to tackle the pervasive issue of drug abuse among the nation's youth. This collaborative effort, launched at the University of Port Harcourt, marks the third year of PCRC's dedicated campaign to eradicate drug-related vices from educational institutions.

The event's speakers passionately advocated for abstinence and highlighted the devastating impact of drug abuse, which has claimed countless lives and contributed to rising insecurity and crime. Voke Emore, Chairman of PCRC in Rivers State, stressed the importance of collective action, stating, "We have to put our hands on the desk to keep speaking against drug abuse."

Grace Adeniyi, Assistant State Commander of the NDLEA's Drug Demand Reduction Unit, emphasised prevention over cure, urging students to resist peer pressure and make informed choices. She highlighted the role of community leaders and stakeholders in this fight, saying, "If stakeholders join hands... they will join us to pick fish out of the people trafficking drugs."

The campaign's message was clear: drug abuse is a societal ill that requires a sustained, collaborative effort to combat. With the university serving as a beacon of enlightenment and moral discipline, the coalition aims to create a safer, healthier environment for students and build a future Nigeria free from the shackles of illicit drug dependence.

As the campaign continues, the commitment of these organisations to public education and enforcement sends a strong message of hope and determination in the ongoing war against drug abuse.
