Veteran Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham, who faced widespread criticism for his misjudged political endorsement ahead of the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections, has now made headlines again with an emotional pledge to YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Despite the crushing defeat of Jagan’s party, Mudragada remains steadfast in his loyalty, stating he will “fight to make Jagan CM again.”
Before the elections, Mudragada had thrown his full support behind Jagan, going so far as to launch scathing attacks on Pawan Kalyan and Chandrababu Naidu. His remarks backfired spectacularly as the Kapu vote base swung heavily in favor of the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance. Many expected the senior leader to step back from active politics following this political blunder. However, that has not been the case.
In a surprising move, Jagan recently appointed Mudragada as a member of the YSRCP's Political Affairs Committee (PAC), a nominal yet symbolic gesture. This honorary post seemed to energize Mudragada, who responded with a heartfelt letter thanking Jagan and hailing him as the “oxygen” for the poor. He further wrote, “I will fight with all my strength to ensure you return as Chief Minister. When you do, no one should even dare to eye that CM chair for years.”
Political analysts, however, view this as another case of misplaced optimism. With the YSRCP limited to just 11 seats in the Assembly and the party facing an existential crisis, experts argue that both Jagan and Mudragada need a more realistic and ground-up political strategy rather than banking on emotional appeals and loyalty.
Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu has hit the ground running, focusing on governance and laying the groundwork for Amaravati’s development. His alliance's clean sweep is being seen as a mandate for stable leadership and clarity of vision—something Jagan and his loyalists will need to reevaluate if they hope to stay relevant by 2029.
