Nigerian Army's Offensive: Dismantling Crime in North-Central States

In a significant security operation, the Nigerian Army has intensified its efforts to combat criminal activities in the North-Central region, leading to the destruction of a bandits' camp and the arrest of suspected cultists. This coordinated campaign, executed by the troops of 6 Brigade, Jalingo, and the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke, has dealt a heavy blow to criminal networks operating in Taraba, Benue, and surrounding states.

The latest operations, conducted on Friday and Thursday, respectively, showcase the military's strategic approach to tackling armed groups and gangs. In Taraba, soldiers, under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, embarked on a clearance mission in Takum Local Government Area, targeting remote border villages. Acting on intelligence, they swiftly responded to the presence of bandits in Tati, leading to the discovery and destruction of a major hideout. The troops' agility and tactical prowess were evident as they recovered arms and forced the bandits to retreat into the forest. Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander, praised his troops' improved mobility and discipline, assuring locals of enhanced security in these vulnerable areas.

Simultaneously, in Benue, Operation Whirl Stroke conducted a targeted raid on a suspected cult base in Makurdi's North Bank axis. This area has been a hotspot for youth gang violence and drug-related activities. The raid resulted in the arrest of seven suspects, allegedly involved in armed robbery, drug abuse, and cult-related crimes. The operation's success was evident in the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating items. Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander, commended the troops and emphasized the need for vigilance, particularly among youths, to resist the allure of criminal gangs.

These operations underscore the Nigerian Army's commitment to eradicating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens. With arms trafficking routes in the region under scrutiny, these strategic offensives are a significant step towards restoring stability and peace in the North-Central states.
