Rajasthan's Drug Bust: Uncovering a Nation-Wide Chemical Conspiracy

In a significant breakthrough, the Barmer district police in Rajasthan have exposed a clandestine drug operation with far-reaching implications. The recent raid on an illegal MD drug factory in the Sedwa police station jurisdiction has led to the arrest of a key player in the country's illicit drug trade.

On July 22, the police uncovered a hidden MD manufacturing unit in the Dholakia Kartiya area, seizing a substantial quantity of narcotics and ingredients. The haul included 39.25 kg of MD components, various liquid chemicals, and white powder, enough to produce narcotics valued at a staggering Rs 100 crore. This discovery prompted an extensive investigation into the supply chain behind this operation.

The police identified Rohan Prabhakar Gavans, a Mumbai-based chemical supplier, as the primary source of these illicit substances. Gavans, a resident of Malad West, owned a chemical company in Raigad, Maharashtra, from where he allegedly supplied chloroform, ammonium chloride, and other chemicals to drug manufacturers across state lines. The police's swift action led to his arrest, along with two other accused, revealing a well-established interstate drug network.

The investigation's scope widened as the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Maharashtra Police joined forces, raiding Gavans' factory in Raigad and seizing additional chemicals. This coordinated effort resulted in the arrest of seven individuals, including Gavans and his accomplices, with several key suspects still at large. The operation highlights the intricate web of drug trafficking that spans multiple states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

With the investigation ongoing, the police aim to dismantle this extensive drug network and bring the remaining culprits to justice. This case serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges posed by drug trafficking and the need for continued vigilance and inter-state cooperation in the fight against this pervasive crime.
