Babu’s Vision Reloaded: After Microsoft for Hyderabad, It’s TCS for Vizag!

Back in 1998, a determined N. Chandrababu Naidu made headlines by convincing Microsoft to set up its Indian headquarters in Hyderabad, marking a turning point in the city’s transformation into a global IT hub. That bold move, often seen as a watershed moment for the state, not only catapulted Hyderabad into the global tech map but also revolutionized the IT landscape in the then undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Fast forward to 2025, Naidu is now focused on scripting a similar success story for Visakhapatnam (Vizag). With Andhra Pradesh looking to reposition itself post-bifurcation, Chandrababu and his administration have zeroed in on Vizag as the next major tech and economic hub of the state. The recent announcement of a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) campus in Vizag is being hailed as a milestone in this mission.

The state government has already allocated land for the TCS project, and the upcoming campus is expected to kickstart a new IT ecosystem in the region. Nara Lokesh, IT Minister and son of Chandrababu, drew a striking comparison, stating, “TCS for Vizag will be what Microsoft was for Hyderabad in 1998.

Lokesh emphasized that Vizag is now being seen as the financial capital of Andhra Pradesh, and with TCS leading the charge, more such big-ticket investments are on the horizon. He noted that the campus would not only generate significant employment opportunities but also boost urban development and digital infrastructure in the city.

With Chandrababu’s trademark vision and execution strategies at play, many believe that Vizag could be on the cusp of its own IT revolution. If successful, this move could cement his legacy as a tech pioneer in both Telugu-speaking states, once again proving that when it comes to transformative development, “Babu’s mark” is hard to match.
