Andhra Pradesh's War on Cannabis: A Massive Eradication Effort

In a bold move to tackle the cannabis trade, the Andhra Pradesh government has destroyed over 10,000 kilograms of the substance, sending a strong message to drug peddlers. This dramatic event, witnessed by various officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta, took place in Visakhapatnam, where the war on drugs has reached a new intensity.

The DGP, leading the charge, stated that the fight against cannabis is a top priority, and the government is employing all necessary measures. The destruction of such a significant quantity of drugs, including 10,147 kilograms of cannabis, 19.3 liters of hashish oil, and a kilogram of opium, is a powerful demonstration of their commitment. The DGP's words were firm as he declared that those involved in the ganja trade would face stringent action, with their assets also under scrutiny. This zero-tolerance approach aims to deter both suppliers and users, treating peddlers as terrorists in the eyes of the law.

The operation, conducted at Kapuluppada, was a collaborative effort involving the district collector, MN Harendhira Prasad, EAGLE Director Ake Ravi Krishna, and City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi. The commissioner emphasized the use of technology and drone surveys to enhance surveillance, particularly at check posts, to tighten the net around drug trafficking. The statistics reveal the scale of the issue, with 712 arrests in Visakhapatnam and many more across the state and other regions.

With the government's aggressive stance and improved surveillance, Andhra Pradesh aims to eradicate the cannabis trade, relying on both legal measures and public cooperation to win this war on drugs. The future may see increased vigilance and a significant shift in the state's drug landscape.
