In a significant drug bust, the Vizag city police have uncovered a network of synthetic drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of three students, one of whom is a prominent youth leader of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). The operation, which began with a tip-off, resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD), a powerful hallucinogenic drug.
The accused, Pulagam Konda Reddy, a 23-year-old MBA student and YSRCP youth leader, along with his friends Murada Geeth Charan, 21, and Tangi Harshavardhana Naidu, both final-year engineering students, were apprehended near the bustling Vizag railway station. The police recovered 48 LSD blots, each a small, colorful square, from the trio.
The investigation revealed a well-coordinated plan. Geeth Charan, acting as the middleman, sourced the drugs from a Bengaluru-based supplier, Shanthana, at the behest of Konda Reddy and Harshavardhana Naidu. Konda Reddy, the orchestrator, transferred Rs 25,000 for the purchase, showcasing the financial depth of the operation. The friends' regular consumption of alcohol, cannabis, and narcotics, and their subsequent need for LSD, led to this illicit transaction.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, D Mary Prashanthi, emphasized the importance of intelligence-led operations, stating, "Our dedicated team acted swiftly on credible information, disrupting a potential drug supply chain." The police's proactive approach has not only led to these arrests but also launched a manhunt for the Bengaluru-based supplier, indicating a broader investigation into the drug network. This bust highlights the growing concern of drug abuse among youth and the need for comprehensive strategies to address this issue.
