Nellore Celebrates Sacred Rituals at Sri Venkateswara Festival

The ancient city of Nellore witnessed a remarkable display of devotion as thousands gathered at the ACSR stadium for the Sri Venkateswara Vaibhavotsavam, a grand celebration of faith and tradition. Among the various rituals, the Sahasra Kalasabhishekam took centre stage, captivating the hearts of the devout.

This sacred ceremony, performed on Wednesday, holds deep historical significance. It commemorates the consecration of a silver idol by Queen Samavai of the Pallava dynasty in the 7th century. The one-foot-tall Sri Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy, a replica of the main deity, was the centrepiece of this auspicious event. Over a thousand kalasams, traditional pots, filled with sacred water, were used in the Abhishekam, a ritual bath for the utsava deities, including Srivaru, Sridevi, and Bhudevi. The priests, with their Vedic chants, created an atmosphere of spiritual intensity as they performed the ancient rituals.

The event attracted prominent figures, including Agriculture Minister K Govardhan Reddy, Rajya Sabha member V Prabhakar Reddy, and Dr Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of the local agriculture university. Their presence added a layer of significance to the already momentous occasion. The rituals commenced with the Suprabhatam, an awakening ceremony, followed by Thomala, Koluvu, and Archana, ensuring a day filled with devotion and spiritual reflection.

The festival organizers, TTD, ensured a comprehensive experience for devotees. They distributed the famous Srivari Laddus and provided various food offerings, catering to the needs of the large crowd. The VPR Foundation also played a role in making the event memorable by distributing small laddus as prasadam. With such meticulous planning, the festival promises to leave a lasting impression on both the locals and visitors, reinforcing the rich cultural heritage of Nellore.
