In a remarkable feat of urban maintenance, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has embarked on a mission to eradicate the city's pothole problem. With an astonishing 21,000 potholes identified, the corporation has already filled an impressive 19,659, leaving commuters breathing a sigh of relief. This initiative, led by GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, is a comprehensive road safety measure that goes beyond mere pothole filling.
The operation extends to catch-pit repairs, patchwork, cover replacements, and central median restorations, all executed with military precision. Maintenance teams are working around the clock, ensuring that the city's roads are transformed into smooth, safe pathways. The GHMC's commitment to this cause is evident in the numbers: over 21,078 potholes identified, with nearly all of them repaired, alongside 920 catch-pit restorations, 465 cover replacements, and 18 central median repairs.
The LB Nagar Zone has witnessed a significant transformation, with 3,547 potholes repaired, closely followed by the Charminar Zone with 2,846. Other zones, including Khairtabad, Serilingampally, Kukatpally, and Secunderabad, have also seen substantial improvements, with thousands of potholes filled. The GHMC's Maintenance Chief Engineer, Sahadev Ratnakar, is at the forefront of this operation, ensuring every detail is executed flawlessly.
As the city's roads undergo this extensive makeover, the GHMC is also focusing on public safety and road infrastructure management. The introduction of the Periodic Public Safety Inspection app, developed using ArcGIS Field Maps, is a testament to their innovative approach. This app empowers field engineers to record and address road issues instantly, ensuring a safer and more efficient city. With Commissioner Karnan's assurance of real-time tracking and transparent reporting, Hyderabad is poised for a safer, smoother commute, marking a significant step towards urban development and citizen well-being.
