Hyderabad's Railway Force Cracks Down on Drug Trade

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, has significantly stepped up its fight against the illegal drug trade, with a substantial increase in narcotics seizures and arrests in 2025. This dedicated operation, codenamed 'Narcos', has already made a notable impact, seizing drugs worth a staggering Rs. 5.79 crore in the first few months of the year.

The RPF's Divisional Security Commissioner, Alakunta Naveen Kumar, revealed that the force's efforts have intensified, leading to an impressive 59% increase in the value of seized narcotics compared to the same period in 2024. The statistics are even more compelling when considering the number of arrests, which has risen by 62.12% year-on-year, with 107 individuals apprehended in 2025 for carrying NDPS substances. This operation has been a coordinated effort, with the RPF working closely with the NCB and other law enforcement agencies to target drug peddlers operating on trains.

Mr. Kumar emphasized the broader implications of the drug trade, stating, "Narcotics not only destroy the health of our youth but also damage the economy and well-being of the nation. Drug addiction has far-reaching consequences, affecting both physical and mental health." The RPF's operation has been a strategic response to this growing concern, focusing on trains, a common mode of transport for drug traffickers. By increasing surveillance and checks, the RPF aims to disrupt the supply chain and protect the community from the devastating effects of drug abuse.

With the successful implementation of Operation Narcos, the RPF sends a strong message to drug peddlers, demonstrating their commitment to safeguarding the city's well-being and ensuring that Hyderabad's railways remain a safe and drug-free zone.
