Indian Railways' Drug Busts Surge: RPF's Operation Narcos Intensifies

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Secunderabad is waging a fierce battle against drug trafficking, with a remarkable surge in narcotics seizures and arrests. In a significant escalation of their efforts, the RPF's Operation Narcos has led to the confiscation of drugs worth a staggering Rs 5.79 crore in 2025, a substantial 59% increase from the previous year. This intensified campaign has also resulted in the apprehension of 107 individuals involved in the illicit trade, marking a 62.12% rise in arrests.

Alakunta Naveen Kumar, Divisional Security Commissioner of RPF Secunderabad, revealed that the division has tackled 88 incidents of narcotics recovery this year, a notable increase from the 67 cases in 2024. The RPF's commitment to eradicating drug trafficking is evident in their strategic approach, which includes heightened vigilance in trains and at major stations, often in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau and other law enforcement agencies. Regular inspections and intelligence-led operations have been instrumental in identifying and apprehending drug peddlers who exploit the vast railway network for their illegal activities.

The RPF's efforts extend beyond mere seizures and arrests. Naveen Kumar underscores the grave implications of narcotics trafficking, emphasizing the destruction it wreaks on lives, particularly the youth, and the nation's economy. The RPF's anti-narcotics operations are set to continue with increased intensity, focusing on awareness, surveillance, and inter-agency cooperation. This sustained campaign aims to safeguard passengers and maintain the integrity of the Indian Railways network, ensuring it remains free from the scourge of illicit drug trafficking.
