The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Secunderabad is making significant strides in the war against drug trafficking, with a remarkable surge in narcotics seizures and arrests. In a recent development, the RPF's Secunderabad Division has reported a substantial increase in their efforts to curb the illegal drug trade, seizing a staggering Rs 5.79 crore worth of narcotics in 2025, a 59% jump from the previous year. This success is a testament to the effectiveness of Operation Narcos, a dedicated initiative to combat drug smuggling through the railway network.
The operation has resulted in the arrest of 107 individuals involved in the illicit trade, a 62.12% increase in arrests compared to 2024. Alakunta Naveen Kumar, Divisional Security Commissioner of RPF Secunderabad, revealed that the division has tackled 88 incidents of narcotics recovery this year, a notable rise from the 67 cases in 2024. The RPF's heightened vigilance and collaboration with law enforcement agencies, including the Narcotics Control Bureau, have proven instrumental in disrupting the drug supply chain.
Naveen Kumar stressed the detrimental impact of drug trafficking on society, stating, "Drug addiction destroys lives and weakens the nation's fabric." The RPF's commitment to public safety is evident in their proactive approach, which includes regular inspections and intelligence-led operations to intercept drug peddlers. As the RPF continues its anti-narcotics drive, the coming months will see an intensified focus on awareness, surveillance, and inter-agency cooperation, ensuring the railway network remains a secure and drug-free zone. This sustained effort is crucial in addressing the complex issue of drug trafficking and protecting the well-being of the community.
