Massive Drug Bust in Valsad: Uncovering a Hidden Factory

In a significant operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has exposed a clandestine drug manufacturing unit in the serene village of Atgam, Valsad district. The raid, which commenced on Tuesday and concluded on Thursday, resulted in the seizure of a staggering amount of alprazolam, a potent sedative regulated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The DRI's meticulous investigation led to the discovery of a sophisticated drug production facility disguised as a cosmetic factory. The operation, codenamed 'White Cauldron', culminated in the confiscation of drugs worth approximately Rs 22 crore. Four individuals, including financiers, manufacturers, and distributors, were arrested, shedding light on the intricate network behind this illegal enterprise. Notably, one of the apprehended individuals, S Narsimulu, had travelled from Telangana to collect the illicit drugs, indicating a potential interstate supply chain.

The raid yielded substantial evidence, including 9.55 kg of finished alprazolam, 104.15 kg in semi-finished form, and a substantial 431 kg of raw materials. The factory was equipped with advanced machinery, including reactors, centrifuges, and industrial refrigeration units, enabling large-scale production. The DRI's statement revealed a disturbing trend, linking the seized alprazolam to Telangana, where it was allegedly intended for mixing with toddy, a local beverage. This incident follows a similar bust in Andhra Pradesh in August 2025, where alprazolam was also bound for Telangana.

The Gujarat anti-terrorist squad's (ATS) recent success in dismantling a mephedrone manufacturing unit in Chala, Valsad, further underscores the region's growing role in the illegal drug trade. With the seizure of substantial quantities of drugs and the arrest of key individuals, the DRI and ATS have dealt a significant blow to these clandestine operations, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
