Nellore's Festival of Lights Illuminates Devotion and Community

The sacred Kartheeka month has brought a radiant spectacle to Nellore, with the Laksha Deepotsavam celebrations attracting a sea of devotees, especially women, each night. This ancient tradition, a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage, is a sight to behold, as thousands of flickering oil lamps illuminate the Venkatagiri Rajahs College grounds.

The event, organised by the VPR Foundation, featured a special appearance by the renowned spiritual orator and Andhra Pradesh Government's cultural advisor, Chaganti Koteswara Rao. Mr. Rao, together with MP V. Prabhakar Reddy and Kovur MLA V. Prashanthi Reddy, led the crowd in the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, a symbolic act of divine illumination. The spiritual leader drew a profound analogy between the lamps' glow and human vision, commending the foundation's recent VPR Netra initiative, which brings eye care to rural areas, providing spectacles to those in need.

The day's festivities began with a sacred Rudra Homam, followed by a unique ritual where 108 married couples performed the Laksha Kumkumarchana to the Goddess. As dusk fell, the air filled with chants and devotion as devotees offered one lakh each of fragrant jasmine and sacred Tulasi leaves to the deity Pandarinath.

This annual festival is more than just a religious event; it is a community-building exercise, bringing people together in a shared spiritual experience. The VPR Foundation's efforts in organising such events, coupled with their social initiatives like VPR Netra, demonstrate a commitment to both cultural preservation and community welfare. As the lights of Laksha Deepotsavam continue to shine, they illuminate not just the grounds but also the hearts of the people, fostering a sense of unity and devotion.
