In a significant blow to the criminal underworld, Warangal police have successfully apprehended the city's most wanted criminal, Dasari Surendar, and six of his armed associates, dismantling a dangerous gang responsible for a staggering 39 crimes. This operation, which took place during a routine vehicle check, has shed light on a web of illegal activities, from firearms and drugs to violent extortion plots.
The arrests occurred on November 2nd at the Kothagattu Singaram Crossroads, where the Shayampet police's vigilance led to the discovery of a criminal syndicate. Among the arrested were students, drivers, and delivery boys, all testing positive for ganja consumption. The gang's leader, Surendar, a native of Warangal with a long history of criminal activities, including murder, rape, and robbery, had been operating primarily from Hyderabad. His criminal network extended across five districts, with organized rackets in Hyderabad and Warangal.
The East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ankit Kumar Sankhwar, revealed that the gang had confessed to a recent assault and theft in Bhupalpally, where they threatened a petrol pump worker with a pistol. They were also planning extortion schemes to finance a revenge attack for the murder of their associate, Basith. The investigation further uncovered that the gang had accepted a contract for murder in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.
With the gang's leader and several members behind bars, the police are now focused on tracking down the eight absconding gang members. This operation has not only disrupted criminal activities in the region but also highlights the complex challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing organized crime and its far-reaching implications for public safety.
