In a significant development, the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has taken swift action against a Nigerian national, Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro, for his illegal stay and suspected drug-related crimes. This recent apprehension adds to the growing list of foreign nationals caught in the city's web of illegal activities.
Okoro, known by aliases like Hopy Cup and Jeksa, had overstayed his business visa, which he obtained in 2012. Initially working in the garment industry, he later resorted to drug-peddling to earn quick money, according to an H-NEW officer. The 43-year-old's illegal activities came to light when he was detained in the Asif Nagar area, moving suspiciously. Despite no drugs being found on him, his past actions and expired travel documents led to his immediate deportation.
The H-NEW, in collaboration with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), has been vigilant in monitoring foreign nationals overstaying their visas. This case highlights their success in identifying and deporting those involved in illicit activities. Since its inception, the H-NEW has deported 22 foreign nationals, with 10 of these deportations occurring this year.
"We are committed to ensuring that Hyderabad remains a safe and law-abiding city," said an H-NEW official. This statement underscores the agency's dedication to maintaining public safety and security. The H-NEW's proactive approach in addressing visa violations and illegal activities sends a strong message to potential offenders, emphasizing the consequences of breaking the law in India. With each deportation, the city takes a step closer to a more secure and regulated environment, deterring illegal activities and protecting its residents and visitors.
