Kuwait's War on Drugs: A Renewed Pledge

Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, has declared a resolute stance against the pervasive issue of illicit drugs. In a recent visit to the awareness campaign, "We Protect You Against Drugs," held at The Avenues Mall, Sheikh Fahad emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to eradicating this societal menace. With nearly 90% of narcotics entering the country seized and destroyed, the Ministry of Interior's efforts have been both bold and effective.

The campaign, a collaborative initiative between the Ministries of Interior and Health, alongside Kuwait University, serves as a powerful testament to the government's proactive approach. During his address, Sheikh Fahad revealed that the Council of Ministers has approved a draft decree-law aimed at tightening the noose around drug-related activities. This proposed legislation, soon to be presented to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for endorsement, promises stricter penalties for dealers and users, addressing past leniencies.

Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the importance of regional cooperation within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The GCC nations, he noted, are united in their efforts to combat the scourge of drug production and trafficking, sharing information and coordinating strategies to tackle this transnational challenge. The Minister also acknowledged the role of the Kuwaiti Bar Association, requesting their assistance in interpreting the new law's articles, underscoring the importance of legal expertise in this complex battle.

As Kuwait's war on drugs intensifies, the nation's leadership is leaving no stone unturned, combining stringent legislation, regional collaboration, and public awareness to create a safer, drug-free society. The upcoming nationwide awareness campaign, with its informative broadcast promos, aims to ensure that every citizen understands the gravity of the issue and the collective responsibility to combat it.
