Hyderabad's Drug Underworld: Nigerian National Deported After a Decade of Illegal Stay

In a significant development, Hyderabad's Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has exposed the city's dark underbelly of illegal drug trade, leading to the deportation of a Nigerian national who had been living in the shadows for over a decade. The man, Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro, aged 43, had become entangled in a web of drug trafficking, exploiting the city's anonymity and a thriving youth drug market.

Okoro, known by aliases Hopy Cup and Jeksa, initially entered India in 2012 on a business visa, intending to trade in garments. However, his journey took a different turn as he became a frequent traveller between Bangalore and Hyderabad, allegedly forging connections with drug traffickers. The expiration of his visa and passport pushed him further into the illegal drug trade to fund his lavish lifestyle.

The H-NEW team's vigilance led to Okoro's interception in the Asif Nagar area, where his suspicious behaviour and expired travel documents raised red flags. The subsequent investigation revealed his past involvement in drug supply networks within Hyderabad's nightlife scene. This discovery prompted swift deportation proceedings, ensuring Okoro's exit from the country under the watchful eyes of immigration authorities.

Hyderabad's battle against illegal foreign residents involved in drug trafficking is far from over. H-NEW's deportation of 22 foreigners, including 10 this year, underscores the city's attractiveness to those seeking to exploit its urban anonymity for illicit activities. As Inspector S Bala Swamy aptly puts it, "Once entangled in these networks, exiting becomes a challenge." This operation serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to safeguard the city's security and well-being.
