In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade, a 28-year-old man, K. Pratap Choudary, was arrested in Rajasthan for his alleged involvement in a narcotics distribution network. This arrest comes as part of a broader crackdown on the sale and purchase of narcotic tablets in the Vellore district, where authorities have been actively monitoring public spaces and online platforms.
The operation began with a tip-off to the Vellore Superintendent of Police, A. Mayilvaganan, who swiftly formed special teams to conduct surprise inspections at bus termini, railway stations, and markets. These efforts led to the recent apprehension of a gang near the Katpadi railway station, from whom a substantial quantity of tablets was confiscated. The gang members, during interrogation, revealed the identity of their primary supplier, who operated through online channels.
The Pallikonda police, with the expertise of the cybercrime team, tracked the supplier to his Rajasthan hideout. In a coordinated operation with local law enforcement, they arrested Choudary and recovered 11,000 narcotic tablets. This successful operation underscores the growing trend of drug trafficking moving online, requiring law enforcement to adapt their strategies accordingly.
Since January, the police have arrested 102 individuals in Vellore for their involvement in the narcotics trade, seizing a total of 29,000 tablets. The establishment of a dedicated helpline for reporting drug-related activities demonstrates the police's commitment to eradicating this menace. This operation highlights the effectiveness of proactive policing and the importance of public-police cooperation in tackling the complex issue of drug trafficking. With the ongoing investigations, the police aim to dismantle the entire network, sending a strong message to potential offenders.
