In a bid to combat the growing menace of cybercrime, Telangana's Director General of Police, B. Shivadhar Reddy, has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad Surakshit Hyderabad." This initiative aims to empower citizens with knowledge and vigilance in the face of increasing online fraud attempts. The launch event, held at the Jalavayu Tower Community Hall in Kawadiguda, Hyderabad, marked the beginning of a statewide effort to tackle this modern-day challenge.

The DGP emphasized the alarming rise in cybercrime over the past decade, a trend not unique to Telangana but a global concern. With fraudsters exploiting phones and social media to access personal details, the campaign focuses on educating the public about potential threats. Women, senior citizens, and homemakers, often vulnerable targets, are being warned about callers using fear tactics to extract sensitive information. The police have introduced enhanced cyber patrolling and are urging volunteers to join the 'Cyber Simbha' initiative, creating a network of informed citizens.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar shed light on the staggering daily losses due to online scams, amounting to 1 crore rupees. He stressed the importance of grassroots-level awareness, encouraging citizens to be cautious of suspicious calls and links and to protect their passwords and personal details. The campaign also provides a dedicated helpline (1930) and a national cybercrime reporting portal for victims to seek immediate assistance.

As the campaign gains momentum, the collective effort aims to create a safer digital environment.
