Adding to the residents' woes is the long-standing demand for a police station within the colony. Despite instructions from the police commissioner in 1993, this request has gone unfulfilled for 25 years. Preethi J, an IT professional, describes her nightly ordeal, opting for a longer route home to avoid groups of men exhibiting erratic behavior due to substance abuse.

In response to the growing concerns, GHMC officials have taken steps to address the issue. Electrical engineer G Anitha has assured residents that the pending installation of streetlights will commence soon, with over 40 complaints already resolved. While this may provide some relief, the deeper issues of substance abuse and the need for enhanced security measures persist, leaving residents hoping for a swift and comprehensive resolution to restore Vijaynagar colony's former tranquility.
