Hyderabad Fights Back: A City's Cybercrime Awareness Drive

In a bold move to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud, the Hyderabad Police have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad Surakshit Hyderabad," aiming to educate and empower citizens in the digital realm. With cybercriminals exploiting fear and greed, the initiative couldn't be more timely.

The campaign, unveiled at a residential complex in Kavadiguda, introduces a unique strategy: a network of 'cyber ambassadors.' These ambassadors, comprising residents, students, and professionals, are trained in digital safety practices, ready to spread awareness and protect their community. Through door-to-door visits, workshops, and public interactions, they will educate Hyderabad's residents about online scams, phishing, and identity theft, fostering a culture of digital vigilance.

The Hyderabad Police's approach is multi-faceted. Awareness materials will be prominently displayed at public spaces, from bus stands to educational institutions, ensuring the message reaches every corner of the city. The campaign's trial phase will expand, as emphasized by officials, to cover the entire Hyderabad Commissionerate jurisdiction, where cybercrimes cost victims up to 1 crore daily.

Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy highlighted the evolving nature of cybercrime, with criminals exploiting personal details obtained through phone calls, social media, and online interactions. He urged citizens to be vigilant, warning against clicking unknown links, downloading APK files, or responding to video calls from unfamiliar numbers. This campaign is a crucial step in the ongoing battle against cybercrime, empowering citizens with the knowledge to protect themselves and their community.
