Drug Traffickers Jailed: NCB's Crackdown on Cross-Border Smuggling

In a significant victory for India's war on drugs, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has secured the conviction of two drug traffickers in separate cases, sending a strong message to those involved in the illicit trade. The NCB's Chandigarh branch, in particular, has played a pivotal role in disrupting cross-border smuggling operations, as evidenced by a recent press release detailing their achievements.

The agency's efforts culminated in the conviction of Gurpreet Singh, alias Mangal, a resident of Punjab's Fazilka district. Singh was found guilty of possessing a substantial 5.958 kg of heroin, which was seized by NCB Amritsar in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) on April 14, 2021, near the Indo-Pakistan border. The Special NDPS Court in Fazilka sentenced Singh to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh, emphasizing the severity of his crime. This verdict serves as a stark reminder of the NCB's unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking.

Furthermore, in a separate case, the NCB's Lucknow Zonal Unit demonstrated its vigilance by intercepting and arresting Azad, a trafficker in possession of 2.7 kg of charas. The Special NDPS Court in Barabanki sentenced Azad to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. These successful prosecutions highlight the NCB's comprehensive approach, targeting both heroin and charas smuggling, and ensuring that justice is served.

The NCB's dedication to combating drug trafficking is evident, with 219 convictions in 103 NDPS cases in 2025 alone. As the Bureau continues its mission, these convictions serve as a warning to drug smugglers and a reassurance to the public that their safety and well-being are being safeguarded.
