Telangana's Transport Minister Targets Road Safety

In a significant move to tackle the pressing issue of road accidents, Telangana's Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has unveiled a comprehensive enforcement strategy. The minister's recent meeting with senior officials from the Transport department sets the stage for a statewide initiative to enhance road safety and reduce accidents.

The plan involves a multi-pronged approach, with a focus on district-level enforcement and surprise checks. Three dedicated State-level flying squads will be the spearhead of this operation, ensuring a swift and efficient response to traffic violations. The strategy aims to maintain a constant and vigilant presence on the roads, with daily instructions and surprise check locations communicated to the teams at 6 a.m. each morning. This proactive approach targets various violations, including overloading, outdated fitness certificates, and air and noise pollution infractions.

The minister has emphasized the need for a balanced approach, instructing officials not to harass passenger auto drivers or farmers using tractors for agricultural activities. This strategy is a fine-tuned operation, with joint transport commissioners ensuring at least one enforcement team is active at all times, even on public holidays. Districts like Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Adilabad, and Sangareddy will witness intensified inspections of inter-state contract carriage buses, with immediate action against vehicles violating speed limits, overloading regulations, or operating without valid fitness certificates.

Minister Prabhakar's vision extends beyond enforcement, as he directs officials to engage in public outreach during the upcoming Road Safety Month. This includes educational initiatives such as essay competitions and creative programs for students, as well as the establishment of Children's Awareness Parks across all districts. The minister aims to foster a culture of road safety, combining strict enforcement with community engagement, to create a safer and more responsible transportation environment in Telangana.
