Hyderabad is gearing up for a significant overhaul in road safety and transport regulation. In a recent development, the state government has announced the formation of 33 district-level enforcement teams and three state-level flying squads, a bold move to tackle vehicle rule violations head-on. The minister's review meeting with senior officials revealed a multi-pronged approach. The newly formed teams will conduct daily inspections, primarily targeting overloaded commercial vehicles, including lorries and buses, as well as those transporting minerals and construction materials without the necessary permits. The crackdown will also extend to vehicles lacking essential fitness and pollution certificates, ensuring that every vehicle on the road is fit and compliant. Minister Prabhakar's directives were clear and comprehensive. He emphasized the need for 24/7 operations, even on public holidays, to ensure continuous monitoring. The teams have been instructed to conduct frequent checks on interstate contract carriage buses, while also being mindful of not harassing auto-rickshaws and agricultural tractors used for passenger transport. The minister's inquiry into the post-accident enforcement actions revealed a significant number of cases registered against violators, with 352 overloaded lorries and 43 buses penalized in the past week alone.

Looking ahead, the minister's vision extends beyond enforcement. He stressed the importance of public awareness during the upcoming Road Safety Month, suggesting student competitions and awareness programs. Additionally, his commitment to women's empowerment was evident in his instruction to expedite auto permits for women, opening up new avenues for employment.
