Medical Students Run for a Drug-Free Telangana

In a powerful display of unity and purpose, over 400 medical students from Hyderabad's Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (AIMSR) took to the streets in a run to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. The event, titled "Arun for a Cause - Stop Substance Abuse," was a part of the institute's annual cultural fest, Anastomoz 2025, and was flagged off by Ponnam Prabhakar, the Minister for Transport & BC Welfare, Government of Telangana. This initiative aimed to spread a crucial message: protecting the youth from the devastating effects of drug addiction.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized the government's commitment to combating drug abuse. He highlighted the introduction of stringent laws against substance abuse, inspired by the vision of a 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' as advocated by the Prime Minister. The Minister also stressed the need for collective action, urging students to take the lead in raising awareness and becoming advocates for a drug-free society. He said, "Many young people fall into the trap of drugs seeking temporary relief from stress, but this leads to long-term devastation. As future doctors, you have a vital role in building a healthier and safer Telangana."

The event also served as a platform for medical professionals to share their insights. Dr. K. Manohar, Dean of AIMSR, spoke passionately about the impact of substance abuse, having witnessed its destructive nature firsthand. He applauded the government's efforts in seizing contraband and encouraged everyone to join the fight against this growing menace. Aparna Reddy, COO of AIMSR, expressed gratitude to the Minister for his support and congratulated the students for their dedication to such a worthy cause.

As Anastomoz 2025 continues until October 11, 2025, it promises to be a week filled with sports, cultural performances, literary events, and academic competitions, all while keeping the focus on the critical issue of substance abuse and the collective effort needed to address it.
