In a remarkable display of environmental stewardship, a total of 2,370 saplings now grace the grounds of Nellore's public spaces, thanks to a collaborative effort between local politicians and municipal authorities. This initiative, part of the Swarna Andhra Swachh Andhra program, saw a significant development in the city's green cover on Saturday.
The event, held at the Municipal Park in Ramalingapuram, Nellore Rural, was attended by TDP leader Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy and Nellore Municipal Corporation Commissioner YO Nandan. Together, they led the way in planting these saplings, marking a significant milestone in the constituency's environmental efforts. The project's scope is impressive, with a total of 26 divisions within Nellore Rural receiving these new saplings, all at a substantial cost of Rs 35 lakh.
The initiative also included a critical protective measure, with fencing installed around 17 acres of government land across these divisions, costing Rs 6.7 crore. This move safeguarded government reserve land worth a staggering Rs 300 crore from potential encroachments.
Emphasizing the importance of community involvement, Giridhar Reddy urged locals, walkers' associations, and residential welfare groups to participate in the development and maintenance of these green spaces. This call to action highlights the belief that environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility, fostering a sense of community ownership and pride in Nellore's public spaces. With this initiative, Nellore has taken a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future, setting an example for other urban areas to follow.
