The Hyderabad traffic police took the lead, apprehending 457 drivers, with two-wheeler riders making up the majority at 377. The Cyberabad police, not to be outdone, arrested 468 offenders, including 335 bikers and a notable 107 four-wheeler drivers. The Cyberabad police, in particular, emphasized the gravity of the offense, warning that causing a fatal accident while intoxicated could lead to charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, carrying a maximum punishment of 10 years' imprisonment. This recent drive is part of a broader strategy, as evidenced by the disposal of 681 drunk driving cases in the week prior, with penalties ranging from fines to jail time.
