In a significant development for the city of Nellore, 15,000 underprivileged students will soon have access to a corporate-style education, free of cost. This ambitious initiative, announced by Municipal Administration Minister Dr. P. Narayana, aims to transform the educational landscape for the city's youth.
During his visit to Moolapet Girls High School, Dr. Narayana revealed that 15 government schools will be upgraded to the VR High School model by the next academic year. This move is part of a broader effort to modernize Nellore's educational infrastructure, with the help of generous donors. DSR Constructions, for instance, is currently constructing a state-of-the-art campus for Moolapet Girls High School, complete with a modern playground and a spacious two-floor building covering 40,000 sq ft.
The minister also highlighted the contribution of various companies under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Union Bank has donated four buses worth Rs 1.2 crore to VRMCH School, while Zigma, TVS, Reddy Labs, and AMR have committed to adopting schools. These partnerships between the government and private sector entities are set to revolutionize education in the region.
Dr. Narayana's surprise visit to the Sunday Market area also addressed infrastructure issues beyond education. He acknowledged the severe waterlogging problems during rains and assured residents that road elevation work would commence immediately. The minister instructed officials to design a permanent drainage solution, emphasizing the need to widen key canals and address encroachment issues. The government's commitment to improving Nellore's infrastructure extends to a revived underground drainage project worth Rs 165 crore, with the ultimate goal of creating a mosquito-free city.
