STPI and ESC Launch “Building The Next Unicorn” Initiative to Propel Indian Startups Globally

On September 7, 2022, the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) unveiled a new startup initiative titled “Building The Next Unicorn.” This program, supported by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Electronics & IT, and the Consulate General of India in San Francisco, is designed to help Indian startups achieve a global presence.

The initiative focuses on expanding the international footprint of promising Indian startups. It involves a structured three-tier approach to support startups in their journey towards global markets.

  1. State-Level Conclaves (September/October 2022): Initial conclaves will be held in various states, where startups can engage with tech experts and industry leaders. Participating startups will pitch their business ideas, and up to 25 from each conclave will advance to the National Conclave.

  2. National Conclave (November 2022): Startups selected from state conclaves, along with some additional promising startups, will be invited to the National Conclave. The final selection for the Mission to the USA will be made here.

  3. Mission to the USA (January 2023): Selected startups will visit the US, attend a major technology event, and meet with investors and venture capitalists to explore market opportunities and secure funding.

The initiative’s first state conclave was held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on September 6, 2022, marking the beginning of this ambitious program to elevate Indian startups on the global stage.
