New Hub Aims to Foster Entrepreneurship and IT Growth in Karnataka
On November 25, 2022, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, inaugurated a Digital India startup hub at the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) centre in Davanagere, Karnataka. This facility marks the 63rd STPI centre nationwide and the fifth in Karnataka.
Minister Chandrasekhar highlighted the initiative's role in generating job opportunities and promoting entrepreneurship in the region. He emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of involving every young Indian in the country’s growing tech and innovation sector. The government aims to expand the IT/ITES/ESDM industries beyond major metropolitan areas to newer cities.
The new STPI centre spans 10,000 square feet within the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Regional Centre. It features a 102-seater incubation facility, a Network Operations Centre (NOC), a 16-seater conference room, and a 32-seater cafeteria. The centre is equipped with high-speed data communication facilities, supporting the export of software and services.
Chandrasekhar praised India’s rapid innovation growth, noting that the country now boasts over 80,000 startups and 107 unicorns. He also highlighted India's prominent role in global economic forums like the G20 and its achievements in attracting record foreign direct investments. The inauguration was attended by local dignitaries including B.A. Basavaraja, District In-charge Minister, and G.M. Siddeshwara, Member of Parliament.
