Hyderabad's streets witnessed a dramatic crackdown on drunk driving over the weekend, with a staggering 925 drivers caught under the influence. This operation, led by the city's traffic police, sends a clear message: driving while intoxicated will not be tolerated.

The enforcement drive, conducted in both Hyderabad and Cyberabad Commissionerate limits, revealed a concerning trend. In Hyderabad, 457 individuals were apprehended, with two-wheelers accounting for the majority of offenders. The Cyberabad police also made significant arrests, totaling 468, with a notable number of young adults between 21 and 30 years old among those caught.

The blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels of these drivers were alarming, with some reaching as high as 500 mg/100 ml. This reckless behavior has prompted the police to take a firm stance, emphasizing the potential consequences of such actions. Those found guilty of drunk driving and causing fatal accidents will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which could result in up to 10 years of imprisonment.

The recent surge in drunk driving cases has led to a swift response from the authorities. In the past week, 681 cases were disposed of in the courts, with penalties ranging from fines to jail sentences and social service assignments. This proactive approach aims to deter potential offenders and ensure the safety of all road users.
