In a concerning development, Andhra Pradesh's agricultural community is grappling with a significant reduction in support. YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy has alleged that the state government has removed a staggering seven lakh farmers from the beneficiary list of the Annadata Sukhibhava PM KISAN Scheme. This move has sparked outrage and raised questions about the government's commitment to the farming sector.
Speaking at the YSRCP district office in Nellore, Mr. Reddy revealed that the number of beneficiaries has shrunk from 53.58 lakh to 46.85 lakh. This drastic cut is particularly alarming as it goes against the promises made by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu during the 2024 elections. The former Agriculture Minister emphasized that under the previous Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy administration, 53.58 lakh farmers benefited from the Rythu Bharosa scheme, receiving substantial financial aid.
The financial implications are profound. Mr. Reddy pointed out that each eligible farmer was entitled to receive 20,000 in the first year, in addition to central assistance. This would have amounted to a total deposit of 10,716 crore in the initial year and 21,432 crore over two years. However, the government has failed to release these funds, and the number of beneficiaries has been reduced, leaving many farmers without the support they were promised.
The YSRCP leader also drew attention to the state government's inadequate fund release, with only 4,600 crore disbursed against the required 21,432 crore over two years. This discrepancy, he argued, demonstrates the extent to which farmers have been let down. The situation is further exacerbated by the alleged black-market sale of urea, a critical fertilizer, at inflated prices, adding to the farmers' woes.
