This translates to a substantial financial backlog of 187.67 crore rupees.

The story is similar in the other two commissionerates, Cyberabad and Rachakonda. Cyberabad, known for its IT hub and upscale lifestyle, recorded 33,77,684 challans, with 25,38,152 (75.1%) unpaid, amounting to 91.71 crore rupees. Rachakonda, a diverse area with farmhouses and residential clusters, has the lowest compliance rate at 16.6%, with 21,58,423 challans pending. The sheer volume of unpaid fines raises concerns about the effectiveness of traffic enforcement and the potential impact on road safety.

Two-wheelers are the primary culprits, accounting for the majority of violations, including wrong-side driving, overspeeding, and riding without helmets. The data also reveals a concerning trend of repeat offenders, with some vehicles accumulating over a hundred challans. As the authorities grapple with this challenge, they are employing various tactics to encourage payment. A Cyberabad official mentioned a door-to-door drive targeting top violators, indicating a proactive approach to address this mounting issue.

With such a significant number of unpaid fines, the tri-commissionerates must devise innovative strategies to ensure compliance, promote road safety, and address the underlying causes of these violations.
