The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) have launched the "Building The Next Unicorn" initiative, aimed at supporting Indian tech startups. At a national conclave inaugurated by Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and IT, 40 startups were chosen to participate in the “Mission to USA” program. This initiative will offer these startups a chance to visit the United States, aligning with a major tech event, to gain insights into the world’s largest tech market.
In addition to market exposure, the selected startups will engage with investors and venture capitalists in San Francisco, enhancing their global competitiveness. This initiative reflects India's transition from a technology consumer to a technology producer, with significant growth in various sectors, including IT, electronics manufacturing, and startups. The government’s efforts are aimed at creating 1 crore job opportunities by 2024.
STPI Director General, Shri Arvind Kumar, emphasized the importance of fostering innovation in non-metropolitan cities through initiatives like the Centre of Excellence (CoEs) and the Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS). The event also introduced a report titled "Start-Up Ecosystem Beyond Tier 1 Cities," aiming to further position India as a global hub for innovation. ESC Chairman, Shri Sandeep Narula, highlighted the goal of connecting promising Indian startups with international markets and investors through a tiered approach to national and global exposure.
