Andhra Pradesh's Coastal Bridge Reconstruction: A Crucial Plea

In a significant development for Andhra Pradesh's coastal communities, Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy has petitioned the state government for the urgent reconstruction of the Pallipalem-Upputeru bridge, destroyed during the devastating Cyclone Nivar in 2021. This bridge, a vital link connecting the coastal villages of Gangapatnam, Pallipalem, and Maipad in Indukurpet mandal, has left residents, farmers, fishermen, and students grappling with severe hardships due to its absence.

During a meeting with irrigation minister Nimmala Rama Naidu in Vijayawada, Reddy emphasized the bridge's critical role in connecting these coastal habitations. She submitted a memorandum detailing the estimated reconstruction cost of Rs. 14.60 crore, underscoring the urgency of the situation. The MLA's plea highlights the immediate need for a proper crossing, as the lack thereof has significantly impacted the daily lives of those dependent on the bridge for their livelihoods and education.

Reddy also brought attention to other essential infrastructure repairs, including the damaged shutters of the Kanigiri Reservoir and the Southern, Eastern, and Paideru Escape Channels. Her efforts to address irrigation issues in the Penna Delta region were accompanied by Penna Delta chairman Jetty Rajagopal Reddy, who supported her in presenting these pressing concerns to the minister.

As the government deliberates on this plea, the fate of these coastal communities hangs in the balance, awaiting the much-needed funds to rebuild and restore their vital connection. The prompt allocation of resources will not only address the immediate hardships but also ensure the long-term resilience of these vulnerable coastal areas.
