In a groundbreaking initiative, the Twenty-Point Programme committee chairman, Lanka Dinakar, has unveiled an ambitious plan to bring life-giving water to the drought-stricken and fluoride-affected regions of Andhra Pradesh. The project, set to impact over 60 lakh people, will link the mighty Godavari River to the Nallamala Sagar, also known as the Veligonda Project Reservoir, via the Bollapalli Reservoir.

This engineering marvel aims to quench the thirst of 1,009 fluoride-affected villages in Prakasam district alone, out of a total of 1,769. The Veligonda project, a key component of this water distribution network, promises to be a game-changer, ensuring safe drinking water for the region's residents. Moreover, the project will irrigate approximately 7 lakh acres of land, fostering agricultural growth and transforming the area into a hub for employment opportunities.

The idea for this river-linking project was first presented to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on January 1, 2025, by Dinakar, who highlighted its potential to benefit 23 lakh people in several fluoride-affected and drought-hit mandals. The Chief Minister's positive response led to a series of discussions involving key figures such as Irrigation Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and senior officials, resulting in the creation of a detailed project report. The project received its official stamp of approval from the Chief Minister on March 8, 2025, at a meeting in Markapuram, signaling a new era of hope and development for the region.

As the project moves forward, the people of Andhra Pradesh eagerly await the day when the Godavari's waters will flow into their homes and fields, marking a significant step towards a brighter, more prosperous future.
