Inauguration of Indian Red Cross Society's New Radiotherapy Centre: A Tribute to Service and Innovation

The Radiotherapy Centre of the Indian Red Cross Society in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, was inaugurated with heartfelt remarks on the profound impact of humanitarian work. The ceremony highlighted the Red Cross’s commitment to alleviating suffering, with a tribute to the legacy of Marie Curie, whose pioneering work in radiation therapy has saved countless lives.

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan praised the Red Cross Society for its unwavering dedication and the vital role of its volunteers, likening their service to a divine mission. She drew inspiration from Curie, whose discovery of radium revolutionized cancer treatment despite immense personal sacrifice.

In her address, the Governor reflected on her visit to Peddamiram, where Dr. M.R. Raju’s efforts in establishing a cancer treatment center have significantly improved healthcare access in rural areas. She also spoke about her encounters with three brave individuals battling cancer, highlighting their resilience and the importance of a supportive environment in managing the disease.

The Governor emphasized the need for continued innovation in cancer treatment, including advancements in stem cell research and integrated care approaches. She encouraged adopting comprehensive strategies combining psychological support with medical treatment to enhance patient outcomes.

The event concluded with a call to integrate humanitarian values into education by making Red Cross participation compulsory in local schools and colleges, aiming to foster a spirit of service among youth.
