On Friday, Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, who also serves as the president of the Indian Red Cross Society’s State branch, awarded the President’s Gold Medal for 2018-19 to Y.D. Rama Rao, Chairman of the East Godavari district branch. The accolade recognized Rao’s exceptional contributions to the Red Cross movement.
During the annual general meeting at SS Convention Hall in Vijayawada, Governor Harichandan commended the Andhra Pradesh branch for its outstanding humanitarian efforts, especially its role during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it provided essential food and shelter to migrant workers. He praised the commitment of Red Cross officials and district leaders, highlighting their role in strengthening local branches and securing financial resources for their causes.
Harichandan also emphasized the importance of environmental awareness, urging large-scale tree plantation efforts and the reduction of single-use plastics. He called on Red Cross members to organize more blood donation drives to ensure that no life is lost due to a lack of blood.
In recognition of their efforts, the Governor presented medals and certificates to several District Collectors for their outstanding contributions to member recruitment and Red Cross activities. The event underscored the Red Cross Society’s vital role in providing aid and support to those in need.
