In a significant push for tourism development, Nellore is set to undergo a transformative journey with a focus on its rich cultural and natural heritage. The district, brimming with potential, has caught the attention of the Twenty-Point Programme (Viksit Bharat Swarna Andhra Pradesh) Implementation Committee, chaired by Lanka Dinakar. At a recent review meeting, the spotlight was on harnessing Central government funds to strengthen the tourism ecosystem and catalyze economic growth.
The meeting, held on November 25, 2025, emphasized the district's untapped potential, particularly in the tourism sector. Dinakar urged officials to utilize various Central schemes, such as the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD), Swadesh Darshan 2.0, and the SASCI scheme, to develop and promote Nellore's diverse attractions. These schemes offer a unique opportunity to enhance pilgrimage sites, develop sustainable tourism, and transform iconic destinations into global attractions.
Mypadu Beach, a coastal gem, was highlighted as a prime example of untapped potential. Despite its allure, poor infrastructure and maintenance hinder its growth. Dinakar instructed officials to modernize and develop the coastline, envisioning it as a premier tourist destination. The district's tourism department has already prepared proposals totaling 77 lakh for Mypadu Beach's facelift and submitted Detailed Project Reports for several other significant sites. These include plans for the Pinakini Satyagraha Gandhi Ashram, Udayagiri Fort, and various temples, each with the potential to become major tourist draws.
With a strategic vision and substantial funding, Nellore is poised to become a thriving tourism hub, offering visitors a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual experiences. This initiative promises to create jobs, boost the local economy, and put Nellore on the global tourism map.
