As the monsoon season approaches, Andhra Pradesh's administration is taking proactive measures to safeguard the interests of farmers and ensure the state's paddy stocks remain secure. With a low-pressure system looming over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall is predicted across various coastal and southern districts, prompting Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand to issue a stern warning to district collectors.

During a video conference, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of protecting paddy stocks at procurement centres, particularly in districts like Nellore, Tirupati, and Chittoor, where paddy cultivation is prevalent. Vijayanand's instructions were clear: no excuses will be tolerated if paddy gets soaked, and joint collectors will be held accountable if farmers suffer losses due to rain-damaged crops. This directive underscores the government's commitment to ensuring fair prices for farmers and maintaining the quality of the state's agricultural produce.

The meeting also addressed various other aspects of the state's welfare and infrastructure. Special Chief Secretary (Agriculture) B. Rajasekhar provided insights into this season's paddy cultivation, with an impressive 17 lakh hectares sown and an estimated output of 113 lakh metric tonnes. The Civil Supplies Corporation's efforts were highlighted, having procured 7.92 lakh metric tonnes of paddy worth Rs. 1,877 crore from over 1.16 lakh farmers, with a substantial Rs. 1,720 crore already credited to their accounts.

With the monsoon season's unpredictability, the administration's proactive approach is commendable. By coordinating efforts across departments and holding officials accountable, Andhra Pradesh aims to protect its farmers' interests and ensure the state's agricultural sector remains robust, even in the face of challenging weather conditions.
