Governor Calls for Enhanced Red Cross Volunteer Efforts on World Red Cross Day

On May 8, 2024, Governor K.T. Parnaik, President of the Indian Red Cross Society, Arunachal Pradesh state branch, emphasized the need for Red Cross volunteers to enhance the effectiveness of their activities during the World Red Cross Day celebration at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Naharlagun.

In his address, Parnaik encouraged volunteers to deepen their commitment to the Red Cross mission by organizing seminars and engaging educational institutions to better prepare communities for natural disasters, epidemics, and emergencies. He urged volunteers to reach out to marginalized groups, including destitutes, orphans, and individuals affected by tuberculosis, HIV, and drug addiction, emphasizing the need for compassion and collective effort to make Arunachal Pradesh a healthier and more caring state.

The Governor also called for the restructuring of the Red Cross Society to improve its responsiveness during crises, citing the example of NGOs in Tirap and Changlang districts and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s national emergency services. He highlighted the Red Cross’s role as a crucial link between affected populations and government relief efforts.

The event included a volunteer blood donation camp, with Parnaik honoring various contributors with certificates of appreciation. He also paid tribute to Red Cross founder Sir Jean Henry Dunant and acknowledged the dedication of volunteers who have lost their lives in service to humanity. The celebration was attended by key officials, including TRIHMS Director Dr. Moji Jini and Family Welfare Director Dr. Wangdi Lama.
