Cyclone Ditwah Threatens Coastal Andhra Pradesh: Districts Brace for Impact

As Cyclone Ditwah looms over the southwest Bay of Bengal, the coastal districts of Prakasam and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh are bracing for a potentially devastating impact. With the cyclone intensifying and heavy rainfall on the forecast, the region is on high alert, preparing for the worst while hoping for the best.

The Prakasam district administration is leaving no stone unturned in its preparedness. District Collector P. Rajababu, in a proactive move, convened a teleconference with officials on Sunday, emphasizing the need for comprehensive readiness. His concern is not unwarranted, as an estimated 168 villages across 14 mandals are in the cyclone's potential path. To safeguard lives and property, officials have been instructed to take every possible precaution. Residents in vulnerable low-lying and coastal areas are being warned, and the administration is prepared to evacuate them if necessary.

The cyclone's impact on agriculture is also a significant concern. With paddy harvesting underway, the collector has urged farmers to delay their activities until the cyclone passes, ensuring their safety and protecting the crops. The administration is taking a holistic approach, with all line departments, including irrigation, electricity, agriculture, and municipal administration, on round-the-clock vigilance.

In Nellore, the administration is equally vigilant. Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy is personally overseeing the preparedness, ensuring that the barrages at Somasila, Kandaleru, Sangam, and Nellore are monitored for inflows and outflows. The focus is on preventing any potential flooding, with special attention given to the streams in the Atmakur region. The state government, under the watchful eye of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, stands ready to provide all necessary assistance, ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
