In a significant move towards ensuring women's safety, Telangana has introduced a groundbreaking initiative, the Travel Safe (T-Safe) system. This innovative technology aims to revolutionize how the state protects its female citizens, particularly working women, as revealed by Director-General of Police B. Shivdhar Reddy at a recent conference in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Reddy emphasized that T-Safe is not just another emergency response tool but a proactive measure that starts safeguarding women from the moment their journey begins. This system is a game-changer as it shifts the focus from reactive to preventive measures, a critical aspect often overlooked in women's safety discussions. Unlike many existing safety apps, T-Safe doesn't require a smartphone, making it accessible to a broader population.
The DGP's presentation at the conference highlighted the app's launch in 2024, coinciding with the National Family Health Survey 2022, which revealed that Telangana has the highest percentage of working women in India. The app's automated ride-tracking feature is its standout element, capable of detecting 42 different deviations, including delays, missed verification calls, and incorrect passcodes. This triggers an immediate response, dispatching nearby vans or police patrol motorcycles to the woman's location.
The T-Safe app has been well-received, with a remarkable 4.7 out of 5 rating from users. The state's proactive approach is evident in the over 350 awareness programs conducted to educate women about this potentially life-saving technology. This initiative sets a new standard for women's safety, demonstrating Telangana's commitment to empowering and protecting its female population.
