In a groundbreaking move, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has taken a significant step towards inclusivity and diversity by welcoming 20 transgender individuals into its security team. This initiative, which began on Monday, marks a new chapter in the city's public transportation system, offering a more inclusive and safer environment for commuters.

The newly recruited transgender personnel have successfully completed their induction training and are now stationed across various Metro stations and trains. Their presence is a powerful statement, reflecting HMRL's commitment to social empowerment and the Telangana government's vision of an equal and inclusive society. With women comprising nearly 30% of the daily ridership, this move is particularly crucial in enhancing their safety and comfort.

The Hyderabad Metro, a sprawling urban transit network with 57 stations across three corridors, serves approximately five lakh passengers daily. The transgender security staff will play a vital role in strengthening passenger services, especially in general areas and ladies-only coaches. They will provide assistance with directions, information, and on-ground support, ensuring a seamless travel experience.

"The induction of these 20 trained transgender personnel is a matter of great pride," said HMRL Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmad.
