Telangana's Cybercrime Crackdown: Empowering Citizens, Building Resilience

In a bold move to combat cybercrime, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has launched a comprehensive six-week campaign, 'Fraud Ka Full Stop', to educate and protect citizens in the digital realm. With a staggering 2.44 lakh National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) complaints and 58,244 FIRs, the state has taken a proactive approach to address this growing concern.

The campaign's launch at the Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills marked a significant step towards a safer digital future. Director Shikha Goel highlighted the state's impressive achievements, including a 30% reduction in financial losses due to cybercrime, outperforming the national decline of 6%. This success is attributed to various reforms, such as an enhanced helpline, improved fraud prevention mechanisms, and a model refund system supported by the High Court.

The campaign is a unique blend of traditional and digital engagement. Each week focuses on a specific cyber threat, from reporting mechanisms to online safety for vulnerable groups. The TGCSB aims to reach 5 lakh citizens directly through physical events, including workshops, flash mobs, and cyber safety walks. The campaign also targets digital and traditional media to maximize awareness.

Director General of Police, Shivadhar Reddy, emphasized the importance of treating cybercrime as a core policing priority. He instructed officers to conduct awareness programmes at all levels, focusing on prevalent scams like digital arrest fraud, investment scams, and social media extortion. The launch also introduced initiatives like SPARC Cyber Clubs in educational institutions and SBI Cyber Defenders to empower students and bank staff as cybercrime sentinels.

As Telangana leads the way in cybercrime prevention, the campaign aims to create a resilient digital community, fostering a culture of awareness and proactive reporting. The state's commitment to safeguarding its citizens in the digital arena is a powerful message to cybercriminals, signaling a united front against online fraud.
