In a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), 21-year-old Shaik Waheed — a bike mechanic from Lalapet — was arrested from Secunderabad Railway Station on Monday. Police recovered 4.1 kilograms of dry marijuana (ganja) valued at over ₹ 2 lakh from him.
The arrest came during intensified checks near Gate No. 2 on Platform No. 1 by GRP–RPF teams. Authorities said Waheed — previously convicted and recently released — had resumed narcotics trafficking. He allegedly procured the ganja from Maharashtra at cheaper rates and was distributing it around Hyderabad.
During the search, two packets of dry ganja were recovered from his backpack. Waheed reportedly confessed that the marijuana was meant partly for personal use and partly for sale in smaller quantities to local buyers. Investigators are now working to trace his suppliers and map the broader network involved in interstate drug smuggling.
According to the police, Shaik Waheed has prior narcotics-related cases registered under the Lalaguda and Tukaramgate police stations — marking this as yet another offence in a pattern of repeated drug trafficking attempts.
The seizure of more than 4 kg of marijuana at a major railway station underscores the persistent challenge law enforcement faces in curbing drug trafficking across state lines. With railway junctions often used as transit points, officials say such operations are vital to disrupt supply chains — especially for repeat offenders with inter-state links.
