Hyderabad Metro Hires Transgender Security Staff: A Step Towards Inclusivity

In a groundbreaking move, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has employed 20 transgender individuals as security personnel, marking a significant milestone in India's public transport sector. The newly recruited staff, now on duty across various stations and trains, underwent comprehensive security and behavioural training. Their presence is a crucial part of HMRL's strategy to enhance safety, particularly for women, who make up almost 30% of the metro's daily ridership of nearly 5 lakh passengers. The transgender security teams will be positioned at strategic locations, including concourse areas, platforms, train entrances, and women-only coaches, guiding passengers, assisting with security checks, and ensuring a safe environment.
